I suspect Reutemann never ever started at right time in any GP...always taking advantege os a quick start prior to the flag down or green light ...incredible...good he never achieved to be a world champion
Ah, yes: the amateurish TV coverage of F1 remembered from my youth 😄 Can you even imagine the start of a GP being missed by the camera in today's Polished & Presented era?!
Not interested
Must have been the last Grand Prix in Watkins Glen.
It was
Peak F1 there. Murray calm, not how he is often parodied. Minimal graphics, music, pre-race nonsense.
11:15 Villeneuve crash was exactly where Roland Ratzenberger died in 1994.
Beautiful as it was.
1980 is the only year in F1 history where they did not go to Monza
The days when “defending” wasn’t a thing. And shouldn’t be today! We can thank Senna for that nonsense. Taken to perfection by Schumacher.
Scheckter had an identical shunt as Villeneuve in practise
They didnt call AJ "Rocky" for nothing ! Cop that mate!! World Champion 1980 ,Legendary!
What I learned: 1) Piquet had a qualifying engine in the T-car. Hopes were slim that he would last the race. 2) Jones was world champion even though only 8 points ahead, because you could only retain 5 results from each half of the season - if Piquet had won another race, he would have lost one fifth place in exchange.
Great Reutemann!
Villeneuve almost a carbon copy of 14 years later to that unfortunate crash. Same corner , same impact zone.
I love the theme music ! lord knows what its called.
"The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac from their album "Rumours"
Villeneuve was lucky that day not to die as that was a big crash , sad that only 2 years later he would meet his maker. RIP
His teammate Jody Scheckter had an identical crash in practise
@@terrywestmorland3069 Dangerous days of F1 they were
That was the same spot Roland Ratzenberger crashed and died in 1994
@@terrywestmorland3069- that was the crash that persuaded Scheckter to retire I believe. He’d seen enough death in his career, and probably decided it wasn’t worth risking his life in that dog of a car.
I do not know how Villeneuve wasn’t at least seriously injured in that crash. He hit that wall so bloody hard that it tore off the gearbox of the car. And that Ferrari was a tubular almunium spacecrame.
126C?
This was a course designed to kill drivers. Second only to the joke they slapped together in Denver
No not to kill drivers, but to test the best drivers. This track is not like the sterilized tracks we have today. In fact, this track with only a couple of changes still races today with IndyCars which have raced there since 1984. I was also at the race that year and heard of Regga's accident during the race.
Such a bad luck for Piquet
At the first start, Nelson cut across Didier and he wisely backed off. Alan cut across Nelson and he didn't. Same driving... different result. You can't win the race on the first lap. Experience is a hard-won thing.
Pironi was never leveled with Piquet, while Nelson and Jones were . But Jones just kept going to his right side, like Nelson was not there
Brabham BT49 = aerodynamics so perfect that it didn't even use the front wing
Isn't this when they were running various cheats like a spring system that allows the car to drop its ride height at speed but rise up to the legal limit while at rest?
@@tiadaidThat was in 1981, and Piquet's first World Championship title.
2:21 shocking to see Brocky crash like that at Mt Panorama.
Very different track than now.
A beautiful race venue, unfortunately foreign money led to its demise , Bernie was only interested in the $$$ 😎
Bring back T-cars.
Hi are there any server for this club I mean where people can chat and share times?
Many thanks for the upload, warms the body of an old fart!
The start of tooheys bathurst 1000 1995 race day telecast
This is a great game i made my player very low power and consistant
Jean Pierre Jarier should have moved over when he was being lapped, he was most likely not paying attention to the blue flags.
2021 and here watching the classics of F1!! The stuff I used to watch with my dad back in the day 🤗 Thanks for the upload and memories!!
Recuerdo haber visto esta carrera junto a mi papá, grande Reutemann!
6:49 and that's how dirty Jones won his WC
Thank you! A lot of great emotions! Formula One is forever!
Ricardo Palleti the only driver to had died for his only start, sad destiny. He is qualify in Detroit but his teamate had recover his car after one accident in WarmUp. Jo Schlesser had participate in few GP with one Formula 2 in 1967.
What's with the guy standing out on track doing the checked flag?
Well my guess is that he's there to signal the end of the race 🏁 lol
Just remember the Adelaide-races and you know that those "traditions" lasted very long....
@@jacobmassey3897 I didn't realize that was a thing back in the day
@@venicebeachsportsnetwork6677 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great race, pity Riccardo Paletti and Gilles Villeneuve were killed this year and the horrific accident happened to end the career of Didier Pironi, also the driver’s strike occurred just before the South African Grand Prix. Apart from those incidents happening, there was some great racing in Formula 1 in 1982.
11:08 villeneuve
RIP M. Walker and J. Hunt. The best ever!.
What is the yellow graphic on the warm-up lap meant to indicate?
Horrendous accident from Regazzoni. The crash would leave the Swiss great paralyzed from the waist down. But what a career he had.
Dear Darren, you are right. Regazzoni had a great career and demonstrated his great skill also in this sad last race. What a pity ...I was a fan of Regazzoni and still I am. His victory in Silverstone in 1979 was a right prize for his career. In this way he entered into the history of motor racing, giving the first victory to Williams. In some way this victory partially vindicated the formula one championship badly missed in 1974. But also in this case, the splendid victory at the Nurburgring will remain for ever in the racing annals.
Murray Walker San and James Hunto.
Great race, stupid driving from Eliseo Salazar, I don’t think he was using his mirrors and chopped across Nelson Piquet’s racing line, no wonder there was a fight between the two drivers.
That's weird. On lap 1 of the second start, we see Henton's car being craned off, but according to Wikipedia he finished, albeit 11 laps down and not classified. He'd busted a gearbox in the warmup for the first start, so I wonder if that's the leftover car from that?
Maybe he took his Teammate's Car? I know that earlier that Season Riccardo Paletti(The Driver who died in the accident) was not able to start a Race(The Belgian GP I think?) because he gave his Car to his Teammate after he crashed so maybe he also took his Teammate's Car?
